The 100th day of school is a fun and great way for our teachers to celebrate mathematical concepts that can be taught using the number 100. From the first day of school, classes begin keeping track of the number of days they've been in school in preparation for the 100th day. This is when the math lesson starts, as the days are often marked using number charts, bundle of tens, place values and fraction charts. There are many activities and lessons devoted to the 100th day at PS173. Students created projects to represent 100 using foods, puzzles and a variety of materials, brought in collections of 100 items, did ten sets of different exercises, explored differences in sizes, weight and length of different groups of a 100, wrote list of 100 books the class has read, what they would do with 100 dollars and what they think they will look and feel like at 100 years (Some students even dressed up like their 100 year old self.) Our 100th day of school was filled with excitement and joy.
