There are many ways that P.S.173 teachers and staff share their expertise with our students. Recently Ms. Heister has begun developing a yoga curriculum alongside our physical education teacher Mr. Battaglini. Boys and girls are learning the importance of breathing and several yoga postures. Checkout our yoga poses as we learn to pose for ourselves. Enjoy, Peace and Namaste

Our PS173 Young Runners learn valuable lessons about how to set goals and make activity part of their daily lives. With the help of their coaches, students learn to run distances from 1 to 4 miles. You could imagine the wear and tear their sneakers go through. That's why it was a pleasure to see Ms. Rodriguez give them  their running shoes. Now they are ready to go the distance. Run over to our Young Runners Page to see more pictures.

Making the Grade: Honors and Student of the Month Status

3/29/2017

With another successful recognition ceremony behind us, P.S.173 recognizes the following students who went above and beyond to achieve high honors and student of the month status. Achieving honors and student of the month is more than just your name on a list. To achieve these honors means a great deal, students must study and work very hard on their education and to see their name on the honor roll and student of the month list gives them a great sense of accomplishment. Other than their grades, it is a visual validation of their successes. We are very proud of their honor status and know that their families are too! Look at some more honors and student of the month pictures on our Honor Roll page. Let’s HONOR these great students!

Our 2nd Annual P.S. 173 Beat the Test Pep Rally was Phenomenal!!! In an effort to make sure the students are confident and excited to take the NYS Tests, all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students were invited to a special event. All teachers have been encouraging and  pumping up the children for the ELA and Math Tests.  In addition, administration brought in  the Harlem Magic Masters for a basketball game in order to motivate and inspire students to do their best, and “Beat the Test!” Classes were rewarded for creative posters and team spirit. Everyone's hard work, positive energy and enthusiasm has made this year's PS173 pep rally a success. Remember every day PS173 ensures that our students learn and continue to grow into unique individuals that will ultimately make a difference in the community, together we make a difference. Abracadabra  PS173 can "BEAT THE TEST"

Family Literacy Night is back at PS173 "The Circus Ship" by Chris Van Dusen Edition

"This March, our 1st and 2nd grade students had the chance to participate in their very own literacy night with Ms. Cayne, our library teacher. With assistance from Ms. Sangesland, one of our pre-k teachers, kids got the chance to enjoy the beautifully written and illustrated book 'The Circus Ship' by Chris Van Dusen, and take home their very own copy of the book. In addition, the kids and parents enjoyed a delicious snack and got the chance to make their own trapeze artists and circus ships. Here's to more literacy nights at P.S. 173!"

Everyone must admit the 5th graders gave use a fun and rewarding experience at the ballroom dancing show. Their dancing was exciting, uplifting and musically delightful. Watching them strut their stuff was inspiring and enjoyable, making us the audience want to stand up and cheer. They taught us merengue, rumba, tango, waltz, the foxtrot and swing. Everyone shined bright and confidently. PS173 is looking forward to continuing Dancing Classrooms with our future 5th graders, clearly the dance lessons are nurturing self-confidence, team spirit and the joy of dancing. Come dance with us, these 5th graders will sweep you off your feet.
