There are many ways that P.S.173 teachers and staff share their expertise with our students. Recently Ms. Heister has begun developing a yoga curriculum alongside our physical education teacher Mr. Battaglini. Boys and girls are learning the importance of breathing and several yoga postures. Checkout our yoga poses as we learn to pose for ourselves. Enjoy, Peace and Namaste

Our PS173 Young Runners learn valuable lessons about how to set goals and make activity part of their daily lives. With the help of their coaches, students learn to run distances from 1 to 4 miles. You could imagine the wear and tear their sneakers go through. That's why it was a pleasure to see Ms. Rodriguez give them their running shoes. Now they are ready to go the distance. Run over to our Young Runners Page to see more pictures.
With another successful recognition ceremony behind us, P.S.173 recognizes the following students who went above and beyond to achieve high honors and student of the month status. Achieving honors and student of the month is more than just your name on a list. To achieve these honors means a great deal, students must study and work very hard on their education and to see their name on the honor roll and student of the month list gives them a great sense of accomplishment. Other than their grades, it is a visual validation of their successes. We are very proud of their honor status and know that their families are too! Look at some more honors and student of the month pictures on our Honor Roll page. Let’s HONOR these great students!
SCHOOL SPIRIT is in full effect thanks to Ms. Garcia, Ms. Zeno and Mr. Kryoneris enlisting the help of the Harlem Magic Masters for our PK, Kinder, First and Second graders. The event was fun for the entire school and complemented the educational initiative directed at empowering our students. By the end of the pep rally everyone was showing school appreciation and pride. Take a look at the MAGIC of a PS173 Pep Rally!!! "This March, our 1st and 2nd grade students had the chance to participate in their very own literacy night with Ms. Cayne, our library teacher. With assistance from Ms. Sangesland, one of our pre-k teachers, kids got the chance to enjoy the beautifully written and illustrated book 'The Circus Ship' by Chris Van Dusen, and take home their very own copy of the book. In addition, the kids and parents enjoyed a delicious snack and got the chance to make their own trapeze artists and circus ships. Here's to more literacy nights at P.S. 173!"
Everyone must admit the 5th graders gave use a fun and rewarding experience at the ballroom dancing show. Their dancing was exciting, uplifting and musically delightful. Watching them strut their stuff was inspiring and enjoyable, making us the audience want to stand up and cheer. They taught us merengue, rumba, tango, waltz, the foxtrot and swing. Everyone shined bright and confidently. PS173 is looking forward to continuing Dancing Classrooms with our future 5th graders, clearly the dance lessons are nurturing self-confidence, team spirit and the joy of dancing. Come dance with us, these 5th graders will sweep you off your feet. This years 19 Young Runners are working hard to be the best. The Young Runners are comprised of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. On Sunday they woke up super early to represent P.S.173 at a Times Square Run. They all did great; special acknowledgement to Audrey, Destyn, Nicolas and Dania for participating in their first race. Lets join our P.S.173 Young Runners at Van Cortlandt Park for the next race.
We are pleased to start the America Scores spring soccer season. Our first day of practice begins March 22, 2017. The soccer teams will hopefully bring some more trophies to P.S.173 as they did during the fall season. Congratulations to the girls soccer team and Jaylyn Toliver on their awards. Lets continue with another winning season.
Check out the moves on these talented 5th Graders. This type of great dancing lead to the silver ribbon. Really excited to see the whole 5th grade on Thursday, showing off their moves. In the meantime enjoy the video. Hoping to see our future 5th graders do the same type of awesome job.
