Winning a championship is no easy task yet the P.S.173 Lady Warriors girls soccer team was on a mission this year, and thanks to a never-wavering focus and playing strong defense the entire season, the Lady Warriors accomplished their goal of winning a first-ever America Scores championship. What proved to be key for P.S.173 this year was the play of a stingy defense. Coach Baldinger pushed these girls, she felt they had an opportunity to have a great season. She instilled mental toughness and encouraged them to persist and work hard even against strong opponents. You can see that these girls feel inspired and supported by their coach. In the final game, P.S.173 Lady Warriors faced their toughest rival this season, P.S.4, a team also from our Washington Heights Community. The focused pony-tailed forward, Amanda Nunez cut through the defense and drove a low shot past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper. The pinpointed goal confirmed P.S.173 Lady Warriors as the America Scores championship team. The defense clutched the game with a strong effort from all of its defenders for the final minutes. The Lady Warriors played some of the smartest defensive plays leading them to become CHAMPIONS. CONGRATULATIONS LADY WARRIORS !
PS173 Welcomed children, parents and teachers of all ages to the first annual "Together We Make A Difference Carnival." The carnival was full of fun activities for every kid. The students arrived in groups led by teachers who catered to the needs of the children. The joy and gratitude on the faces of these children was a treasure. The expression of excitement on the faces of the children as their teachers played games with them and joined in on the overall activities was priceless. Kids played games showing off good aim, steady hands, and nerves of steel to succeed. The inflatables seemed larger than life, allowing many children to jump, skip, and bounce without fear. Other kids got a chance to compete with their buddies. Face painting was a memorable carnival favor many enjoyed. The PTA provided everyone with some colorful treats; the cotton candy was a big hit. Many parents come out to volunteer and support adding to the charm of the event. Let's not forget we couldn't have a carnival without music! The DJ started the party playing various tones, the crowd tremendously enjoyed the program that the DJ put up to entertain them. Lastly, the carnival wasn't complete without at least a good Magic Show. The children loved every moment with the magician as he performed trick after trick to entertain them. After the exciting events came to an end, we're certain each child left with memories of a great day and overall merriment. As our principal has taught us, to develop the spirit of community by sharing in the ideology “Together We Make A Difference.” We deeply thank our helpful parents and teachers for being involved in our PS173 community.
