Kids always want to dress up in costumes. Book Character Day allowed us to participate in the fun of dressing up while doing activities aligned with our Reading and Math curriculum. Students partook in a variety of activities dealing with characters and character traits. Some teachers created centers and had students rotate from one activity to the other. At PS 173 Book Character Day is a fun way to celebrate characters from our favorite books, next time celebrate reading with us!

PS 173 is preparing for our first annual Fall Fun day! Students had the opportunity to decorate their classroom pumpkins, being creative as possible. These works of art are being displayed inside and outside of the classrooms. We are all so excited to see the results! Our first after school Paint & Sip class of the year was a success! Young artists came out with their moms and dads to get in the fall spirit as we drew a colorful pumpkin based on the text, "Big Pumpkin" by Erica Silverman, illustrated by S.D. Schindler. Children were guided step by step by Ms. Riolo using oil pastels with the help of their families and Ms. S. Everyone enjoyed conversation and laughs throughout over snacks and of course, grape juice. Can't wait to see what they create next month! The Parent Teacher Association will be having a Family Movie Night: featuring Boss Baby on Friday, October 20, 2017. A journey to the movies is an amusing night out, that's why the PTA would like to bring back the family bonding experience. It is a great way to support our school and have some first-class fun. What can be more entertaining than quality time as a family while bringing tremendous goodwill to our school community?

Our first graders use their five senses daily, but they may not stop to think about how their senses help them learn about the world around them. Experiments dealing with sight, hearing, taste, feeling and smell teach them to work on one specific sense. These science activities develop an understanding of how the senses work together and independently in everyday situations. They were delighted to share their finding with our Principal and assistant principals.
