At P.S. 173, reading is always an adventure! Our principal Ms. Garcia and our staff encourage students to begin and end each day with a good book. As we continue our Reading Adventures program, two eager readers are chosen from each class to journey inside P.S. 173’s Reading Adventures Cave! The “Cave”—a giant inflatable tube —is nearly seven feet tall and spans the length of the gym floor.
Coordinated by Mr. Brian Battaglini, the Reading Adventures Cave is prepared every other Friday morning for new winners. Our early-bird bookworms arrive in the gym to enjoy a 20 minute literary adventure inside the cave with friends and a great book. The Reading Adventures program has hundreds of P.S. 173’s 3rd, 4th and 5th graders arriving with a book in hand, along with the hope of being selected for the next opportunity to “get lost” inside the Reading Adventures Cave with a great book.

P.S173 will be participating in the Scholastic Pajama Drive. Every student received a parent letter about the event.
The collection will begin on November 8th and run until December 8th. Teachers, have designated a spot in the classroom where pajama collection is set up. Classroom have huge decorated boxes, as the children bring in the pajamas, they can drop it in the box. At the end of the drive, there will be a pajama day for all! More information about that will follow! While the classroom teachers will have collection bins in each of their rooms, we are encouraging everyone to participate. Parents are welcome to drop off pajamas at our collection station in the Welcome Center room 211. We are expecting 100% participation. This is not only about helping others in need, but it is also a valuable lesson of charity that we are teaching our students. Thank you! We look forward to making this a successful event! Attached on the bottom a link for more information. School spirit and pride is in full swing at P.S. 173 amongst the student body, we are having our K-5 Student of the Month Celebrations.
