P.S.173 Lady Warriors America Scores Soccer Champions

Winning a championship is no easy task yet the P.S.173 Lady Warriors girls soccer team was on a mission this year, and thanks to a never-wavering focus and playing strong defense the entire season, the Lady Warriors accomplished their goal of winning a first-ever America Scores championship. What proved to be key for P.S.173 this year was the play of a stingy defense. Coach Baldinger pushed these girls, she felt they had an opportunity to have a great season. She instilled mental toughness and encouraged them to persist and work hard even against strong opponents. You can see that these girls feel inspired and supported by their coach. In the final game, P.S.173 Lady Warriors faced their toughest rival this season, P.S.4, a team also from our Washington Heights Community. The focused pony-tailed forward, Amanda Nunez cut through  the defense and drove a low shot past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper. The pinpointed goal confirmed P.S.173 Lady Warriors as the America Scores championship team. The defense clutched the game with a strong effort from all of its defenders for the final minutes. The Lady Warriors played some of the smartest defensive plays leading them to become CHAMPIONS. CONGRATULATIONS LADY WARRIORS !

I am so proud of what our national team was able to accomplish. Soccer is a game that was meant to be played by me, which is why I am proud of our women's team. They were able to show the world that women can also play soccer. I really do hope that they get more attention from now on. As a fan of soccer, it would be really nice to see a league played by women all over the nation.
